Tuesday May 28th and Wednesday May 29th at 7:00 pm

It is the time of year to demonstrate the progression of our students and the development of their skills.  We appreciate all of the time and dedication parents take to help your child in pursuit of his or her passion and we are equally proud of each and every one of our students.  This performance is all about our students and the opportunity for them to shine for you.  We would like to share some information about our process and procedures as a reminder for our returning students and also to help those who will perform with us for the first time. 

The performance order is attached. Rehearsal order will be released shortly.

Rehearsal Information

Rehearsals will be the same day as performance and times will be announced soon. 

-          Each class is given 15 short minutes on the stage for rehearsal.  It is essential your dancer be on time.

-          Photos will be taken during rehearsal as well as a class photo.  Please be in performance wear and make up for photos.  Details of how you can acquire photos will be posted in June.

-          Please arrive 15 minutes prior to your scheduled rehearsal time.  This allows enough time to park and walk into the VBC.  After entering the Concert Hall, walk to the right and someone or signs will be posted to direct you.  It is essential your dancer be on time.

-          Parents must remain in the building during the rehearsal time.  Your child will sit with his/her class in the first few rows.  This will make getting classes to and from the stage efficient.  Parents are asked to wait either in the lobby or sit in the back of the house (audience).  Any non-participant sitting in the house will be asked to sit behind the production table to reduce distraction.  Pre-Ballet students requiring close supervision may have a parent remain with them.


Performance Information

-          Arrival time for all students is 6:30 pm. Curtain time is 7 pm.

-          All students will be checked in through the Rehearsal Room located to the right of the Concert Hall.  Please have your student(s) dressed and ready to perform which includes hair, makeup, and assigned costume pieces.  Students in Ballet 3 and below will be escorted to the Green Room.  Students in Ballet 3x and above will make their way backstage to their dressing room. 

-          If your student has performed in the first Act, and you would like for them to watch the second Act, check him or her out from the Rehearsal Room during the Intermission to reduce disruption of other audience members during the performance.  Remember, someone’s child is on stage so please do not enter and exit the house during a piece.  All students will be checked out from the Rehearsal Room promptly at the end of the performance. 

-          Please do not send food back with your child, but we absolutely encourage a bottle of water. 

-          No parking passes are available for this production. 

-          Admittance to this performance is free. Invite friends and family to share in the accomplishments of your dancer.


Volunteers Needed – This production would not be possible without your participation!  We appreciate each and every volunteer that helps behind the scenes to make the show a success.

-          Parent volunteers are needed for each performing class up to level Ballet 3.  Please notify your child’s teacher or the front desk if you would like to be with your dancer backstage and watch from the wings.

-          We need a few volunteers to help during rehearsals in the lobby and sitting with the waiting dancers.  We need Table check-in/check-out persons as well as Runners on performance evenings. If you are willing to volunteer but don’t know your availability yet, please email me and I’ll keep a list and we’ll work out details closer to time. -          Bouquet volunteers are needed Tuesday morning to prepare bouquets and again at 6 pm and during the intermission on the days of the performances. Please contact Susie, schoolmanager@huntsvilleballet.org, if you are willing to help with the dancer bouquets. 



-          Children are ineligible to perform if tuition and fees are not to date.

2019 Scholarship Application


The Board of Directors of Community Ballet Association (CBA) offers a limited number of full and partial tuition scholarships to promote interest in the study of ballet as a fine art; to provide qualified training to serious students of ballet; and to cultivate talent in ballet among the citizens of the community.  Awards are based on financial need and aptitude. Application is made through attendance at the audition on Saturday, May 18th at 11:00 a.m., and completion by the parent or guardian (if student is a minor) of the scholarship application form.  Each request will be reviewed and appropriate awards given as funds allow.

Requirements for application:

In order for a student’s application to be considered, the following requirements must be met:

  1. Student shall have studied at Huntsville Ballet School (HBS) for a minimum of two consecutive years.  (Note* any family who has recently relocated to the HSV area is exempt from the 2 year affiliation)

  2. Student shall be 11 years old by September 1, 2019.

  3. Student shall be enrolled in Ballet 3x or higher.

Summer 2019 with Huntsville Ballet School

Continuing your training during the summer months is a great way to maintain and hone your skills, as well as stay in ballet shape.  Huntsville Ballet School offers something for every level of ballet student. Our Intensives offer the intermediate and advanced dancer the opportunity to stay in shape and continue training, with weeks scheduled before and after to summer ballet programs around the state and country.  Mini Intensives are a shorter version of the Intensive to introduce the younger dancer to a multiple class day. HBS also offers a Student Session of weekly scheduled classes throughout the summer. With both daytime and evening options, we are certain you will find classes for your young ballerina.

Summer registration opens online, February 14, 2019.  Visit our school website at www.huntsvilleballet.org and click “Summer” under the School drop down tab, or visit in person at our studio office.

Current HBS Students are to register at their current 2018/2019 school year level.  A tuition deposit of $25 will be charged to all current student accounts and due immediately to secure your spot when classes are approved.

New Students are encouraged to call our office for appropriate placement.  A $20 registration fee will be due at the time of registration.  All students will be evaluated for placement should they wish to continue training with HBS in the fall.

All tuition, deposits and fees are non-refundable.

Looking Ahead to Fall 2019

Fall Registration for the 2019/2020 school year will open online June 6, 2019.  An annual registration fee of $50, along with the first tuition installment will be due to secure your dancers class.  Early Bird Special: Register for the 2019/2020 school year and submit a class schedule by June 30, 2019 and receive a $20 discount!  All tuition and fees are non-refundable. Huntsville Ballet School reserves the right to cancel/change any class due to enrollment.

Important Nutcracker Communication Information!

Dear Nutcracker families,

In order to best keep you updated, we are transitioning to use BAND exclusively for our Nutcracker messaging. 

Since the group emails are not sending consistently from our existing service and we fear you are not getting necessary information in a timely manner, we cannot rely on it as an effective method of communication to you. 

So we ask that all Nutcracker participants that would like the convenience of receiving notifications outside of the in-studio bulletin board to sign up for a BAND account (it is free and easy). It is user friendly and you can set it up to receive your preferred method of notification (either via EMAIL and/or through push notifications in the app). By signing up for BAND, you will receive all  Nutcracker information as soon as it becomes available! 

Please see the in-studio bulletin board for instructions on using BAND. We will not be posting rehearsal information or BAND login information here on the public blog for security of the students.

If you need assistance, please ask the office staff, Jessica or myself.  Many of the cast have already become members of our BAND group and any of our Nutcracker group members or tech savvy kids would be happy to help you set up your account!

Von Braun Center Parking Updates

As you have heard, the VBC is starting construction on the new Music Hall. The ground breaking ceremony was held in August, and construction is ramping up this month. The project is expected to take approximately 12 months, to be completed during Summer, 2019.

While the construction is taking place, there will be a few changes for us, so we wanted to be sure everyone was aware.

The smaller parking lot and the Playhouse entrance on Clinton St will be inaccessible during the construction. We are recommending that our patrons park in the Garage Deck (P4) on Monroe St and enter via the doors next to the Mark C Smith Concert Hall. Once you enter, turn right and follow the hallway to the Playhouse. There will be signs and Theatre Huntsville personnel to guide you.

The North Hall (P1) lot on Clinton St, South Hall Parking Garage (P2), and the P5 (Meadowgold) City Lot will all be functioning as normal. Access the Playhouse through the North Hall Corridor to the front of the Concert Hall and then follow the signs to the Playhouse.

We have included a map provided by the VBC to assist you. Handicap parking and drop off will be available in Lot P3 on Monroe St at the Concert Hall entrance.

Welcome Julie Meehan! Ms. Meehan will be Huntsville Ballet's new House Manager for the 2018-2019 Season. 
How we train ushers this year is changing. We are going to combine with other Huntsville Arts groups where the training will be led by L. Enitza Gillespie to satisfy this VBC requirement.

All parents or volunteers must receive annual training and there are only two opportunities below to do so.


Message from L. Enitza Gillespie, Broadway Theatre League Front of House Manager:

It is time to mark your calendar for the 2018-2019 VBC usher training. This training is mandatory yearly so if you ushered last year you still must attend again this year. Ushers will be called upon from this year's list.

The dates are Sunday, August 26 or Thursday, September 6.

Both sessions will be at 6:00pm. You only need to attend one session. At this time the venue for the training is scheduled in the VBC Concert Hall. If the location changes, I will advise the week before via email. 

The VBC wants an account of attendance so please pick your day and email me your reservation date along with your first and last name(s) and email address of each attendee. You must be a minimum of 15 years old by August 26 to usher. We encourage you to send this information along to others you think may be interested in ushering; however, I ask that you include my email address to them so they can also make their reservation.

Nutcracker 2018 Information

The Nutcracker Auditions

Auditions will be held on Saturday, August 25, 2018, at the Huntsville Ballet School for The Huntsville Ballet Company’s production of The Nutcracker.

Performance dates will be December 7, 8, 9, 2018 in Huntsville and a touring opportunity to perform in Guntersville, Alabama on December 14, 15, 16, 2018.

Students at the Ballet 1 level and above are welcome to audition. There will be a $130 audition fee and a signed contract that will be due prior to Aug. 25th.

Schedule for Saturday, August 25, 2018 Auditions:

Ballet 1/1x Check-in time: 11:30, Audition time: 12:00-12:30, Minimum Ballet Classes: 2 per week
Ballet 2/2X Check-in time: 12:15, Audition time: 12:45-1:30, Minimum Ballet Classes: 2 per week
Ballet 3/3X Check-in time: 1:15,  Audition time: 1:45-2:45,  Minimum Ballet Classes: 2 per week
Ballet 4/4X Check-in time: 2:30,  Audition time: 3:00-4:00, Minimum Ballet Classes: 3 per week
Ballet 5/5X/6 Audition time: During Class 10:00-11:30, Minimum Ballet Classes: 4 per week

New this year is the opportunity to take our fabulous production on the road to Guntersville and perform at The Whole Backstage Theater. With this comes many details to work through with the priority of making it as easy as possible for the dancers and parents.

Cast members will not be required to be in Guntersville for a “tech week” like we do here in Huntsville. Cast members will be called to rehearsal Thursday, December 13 for a dress rehearsal and then for the performances on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Bus transportation complete with Chaperones to and from Guntersville for dress rehearsals and performances will be provided. Also, those dancers who are cast for two shows on Saturday will be given a meal in between performances (compliments of our host). The bus will leave to and from the Huntsville Ballet studio. Guntersville is a 40 mile drive from Huntsville. No dancer will have to miss school.

Huntsville Ballet is working in conjunction with the Kohl Academy of Performing Arts from Guntersville to give their dancers an opportunity to audition for The Nutcracker for the Guntersville performances only. They will attend rehearsals in Huntsville to be prepared to perform in Guntersville.

This is a history making event for The Huntsville Ballet to have our first tour of The Nutcracker. We welcome you to join us in this endeavor.

Maintenance Classes and Company Auditions

Maintenance Classes and Company Auditions will be held on August 7th, 8th & 9th, 2018 (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday) from 4:30-6:00pm.

Cost per class is $15 - payment must be made at the time of class (we will not bill your account).  Punch Cards are accepted.

Maintenance classes are open to all Ballet 4 level and above, including Open Students.

Company Audition Information:

Dancers interested in auditioning for Huntsville Ballet's Pre-Professional Company and Junior Company are REQUIRED to attend ALL Maintenance classes to be considered for a position.

Pre-Professional Company member is required to be at least 14 years of age and at an Advanced Pointe level.

Pre-Professional Apprentice is required to be at least 13 years of age and at an Intermediate Pointe level.

Junior Company member must be a Ballet 4X level or higher with a minimum of 1 year of Pointe work.

All dancers auditioning are expected to be in good shape and ready to work.

Nutcracker Update:  Huntsville Ballet's 2018 production of The Nutcracker will take place in Huntsville, Alabama on December 6-9 and in Guntersville, Alabama, on December 14-16 with stage rehearsals one week prior to each opening.
